Alvin R. Watkins

January 17, 1921 — April 18, 2009



Mr. Alvin R. Watkins, 88, of Frederick, died on Saturday evening, April 18, 2009 at the Golden Living Center, Frederick. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Maizie ( Haines ) Watkins.

He was a graduate of Richard Montgomery High School, Class of 1939. Rockville, MD . Mr. Watkins was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army 8th Air Force. He was a graduate of U.S. Army Air Force mechanics School at Gulfport, MS. He was also a graduate of Instrument Technical School at Chanute Field, IL.

He retired from B&O - CSX Railroad with 44 years of service as a Signal Inspector. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen for 44 years.

After retiring, he regularly attended the B& O R.R. Veterans meetings in Martinsburg, WV. Mr. Watkins was a member of Myersville Baptist Church for 30 plus years and a charter member of South End Baptist Church, Frederick. He also was a charter member of Carroll Manor Volunteer Fire Co., Adamstown.

Surviving beside his wife are three children; Alvin R. Watkins, Jr. and wife Ruby of Frederick, Glenda E. Watkins and her companion Ronald Cole of Frederick, Bernie L. Watkins and wife Cathy of Myersville, four grandchildren; Robert, John, Traci and Amber Watkins, two great-grandchildren; Collan and John Watkins, Jr. .

He will also be remembered by a special niece Colleen Schuettler.

He was preceded in death by a great-grandson David Lee Watkins, sisters Addie Stull, Reba Thompson, Helen Miller and Lucy Swartzbaugh, brothers; Rudy E., Norman B. and Lester B. Watkins and several nieces and nephews.

Services: Private graveside services will be held in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
