Altha "Virginia" Compher, 95 went to be with God on
February 8, 2015. She was the daughter of Elmer and
Mamie Bussard of Middletown, MD. Known to all her
friends as Ginny, she was born on South Jefferson St. in
Fredertck, September 11,1919. Ginny grew up in
Middletown on the family farm, known today as
Surreybrooke Farm. After schooling she found the love of
her life, Atlee Compher, with whom she spent the next 73
years. They met at Braddock Heights Skating Rink in
1937 and she often said that she chased him until he
caught her. They married in 1939. They were so in love
and she has sorely missed him since he departed this
earthly life in 2012. During their years together she worked
on their farm, loved and raised 4 children, loved, spoiled
and cared for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren
and made life exciting for everyone around her. She
especially loved to cook for her family. She spent the last 3
years of her life at Tranquility of Fredericktowne. Outside
the home she worked in food service at T J High School for
the Frederick County Board of Education. Virginia was an
active member of the Carroll Manor Grange and the
Ballenger 4H Club. At age 60 she decided to return to
school and get her GED. She was an active member of St.
Matthews (now Emmanuel Trinity) Lutheran Church for
over 70 years. In death she was preceded by her husband
Atlee. She was also preceded in death by her
granddaughter Susan Jeanne Kester; great-grandson
Jacob Tribett; son in law John Hope; brother Elmer
Bussard, Jr.; sister Audra Feage; and sister Agatha
(Teedle) Powell.
Virginia is survived by 3 sons and 1 daughter. Atlee CV
Compher, 2nd, and wife Mary Ann of Hilton Head SC;
Gary D Compher and wife Kathleen of Frederick; Kevin E
Compher and wife Donna of Berlin, MD., and Donna J
Kester and husband Arthur of Frederick. She is also
survived by grandchildren Daniel Kester, Christina
Compher, Vallie Compher, Theodore Compher, John
Compher, Atlea Compher, Mollie Compher and Robbie
Todd. Her surviving great-grandchildren are Matthew
Kester, Tymber Compher, Jeremy Whitfield, Shelby Jones,
David Compher, Alexandra Compher, Joanne Compher
and Emory Whitfield. Her two surviving brothers are
Murray Bussard and wife Josephine of Springfield MO and
Ralph Bussard and wife Ruth of Middletown. Her surviving
sister Pauline (Skippy) Zimmerman resides in Frederick.
Additionally she is survived by many nieces and nephews
and any number of friends that she collected on life's
pathway.
The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home,
1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick on Thursday,
February12, from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral services will be at
Emmanuel Trinity Lutheran Church on Friday, February 13
at 11 :00. Internment will follow in the Manor Parish
Cemetery at 4004 Ballenger Creek Pike, Frederick. In lieu
