Alma Pauline (Peter) Matheson, 97, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Friday, June 15, 2012 at the Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland.

Born on February 25, 1915 in Slatington, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Oliver James and Laura Eva (Albright) Peter.  Her husband of 40 years, Harry Matheson, preceded her in death in 1977.

Alma was the 1932 Valedictorian of Slatington High School and was awarded a Senatorial Scholarship to Penn State University where she studied PreMed.  After graduation in 1936, she began her career at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, Pennsylvania, where she worked to have the Laboratory accredited.  After her marriage, she relocated to Kensington, Maryland, where she was employed in various medical facilities in the Washington, DC area.  She was a founding member of the Kensington Maryland Chapter of the Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc.  Alma enjoyed travel with her husband, both domestic and abroad, where they made many lifelong friends.

Alma enjoyed the opportunity to meet new people and share in conversation.  She was truly blessed by the many enduring relationships that she nurtured throughout her life, especially her dearest and closest friends from the Boonsboro community.  She was a wonderful mother who will be deeply missed by her whole family.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet E. Luther and her husband Lars of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, James E. Matheson in 1997; her daughter, Jane E. Hyde in 2008; her half-sister, Elizabeth E. Peters; and her half-brother, Oliver J. Peters.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.  Rev. Curvin Stambaugh will officiate.  Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park in Rockville, Maryland.
