Allen Hammond

Allen C. Hammond, 62, of Fairplay, Maryland died on Friday, August 27, 2010 at the VA Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.

Born on December 10, 1947 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Robert J. and Sylvia R. (Hennesey) Hammond.  His brother, Ronald R. Hammond, preceded him in death in 2005.

Mr.  Hammond was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Allen worked as a heavy equipment mechanic, beginning his career with his good friend Emmitt Abbott Escalating and Well Drilling.  His last place of employment was C. William Hetzer, Inc. on the Sharpsburg Pike in Hagerstown.

He was a member of the Improved Order of Redmen Tribe 84 in Williamsport, Maryland.

Allen was a Farm Tractor Enthusiast and collected many different models which he proudly displayed at his home.

He is survived by his two brothers, Howard Leon Hammond and his wife Ruth of Hagerstown and Lauren R. Hammond and his wife Carolyn of Sharpsburg; and his 8 nephews, Bruce, Eric, Robin, Jody, Chad, Michael, Scott and Jeremy.  He is also survived by many great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.  Pastor Henry Marquiss, III will officiate.  Burial will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport.

The family will receive friends from 7 - 9 p.m. on Monday, August 30, 2010 at the funeral home.  There will be no viewing.
