Alison Harrigan

Ms. Alison Michelle Harrigan, 29, of Huger, SC., formerly of Damascus, MD., died on Sunday October 10, 2010. in Huger, South Carolina.

Born on June 30, 1981 in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of Michael W. Sr. and Winifred Dommel Harrigan of Damascus.

She was a 1999 graduate of Damascus High School and attended the University of Tampa where she received her B. S. degree in teaching. Alison was a 6 th grade math teacher at Rosemary Middle School in Andrews, S.C., and also served as the Andrews High School girls Cross Country Coach. She previously taught at Waccamaw Elementary in Myrtle Beach and Pepper Mill Elementary in N. Charleston.  She loved being a teacher and truly enjoyed and supported her students in and outside the classroom.
Alison had a passion for the outdoors but more than anything adored the beach. She was a lifeguard for many years and was an avid runner and fitness enthusiast. She participated in various races and most recently, was serving as Captain for a team preparing to run in the Komen Lowcountry Race for the Cure.
Surviving in addition to her parents are siblings: Elizabeth Worden of New Market, Deborah Daymude of Damascus and Michael W. Harrigan Jr. and his fiancée Marta Palacios of Damascus; brothers-in-law: Peter Worden and Jamie Daymude; nieces and nephews: Larissa, Victoria, Amanda, Ashley, Alexis, Petey, Faith and Ashly; aunts and uncles: Bill Dommel, Tom Dommel and wife Liz, Pat Harrigan, Donna Aller and husband Ski and Nela Bowling. She is also survived by numerous cousins and many friends. Preceded in death by her grandparents, Fred and Jane Dommel & Harold and Ina Harrigan – we are confident they are watching over her now.
Visitation will be held from 3-5 & 7-9pm on Friday October 15, at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd.Mt. Airy, MD. Funeral services will be held at Stauffers on Saturday, October 16 th at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at NorbeckMemorial Park, Olney, MD.
