Alice Marie (Cooper) Oakes, 84, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed away on September 21, 2018 at Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home. She was the wife of Robert Oakes for 65 years.
Born on March 10, 1934 in Knoxville, Maryland she was the daughter of the late William I. and Mabel E. Cooper. Alice was a loving and devoted wife and mother, she loved spending time with her grandchildren. Alice worked for the Washington County School Board as an instructional assistant for 23 years until she retired in 1996. She was a member of the Brownsville Church of the Brethren where she served as a deaconist and choir member. She was also a member of the Keedysville Order of the Eastern Star, and the Boonsboro American Legion Auxiliary.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Denise M. Painter and Doug Ridenour; grandchildren, Branden M. Painter and wife Nicky and Chelsea L. Painter and fiancée Jacob Hendricks; great grandchildren, Dylan and Bryce Painter and Raleigh Hendricks; her sister, Delores M. Caufman and husband Gerald and her brother, Jackie L. Cooper and wife Vickie.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Helen L. Weaver, Dora “Jane” Coyle and Jerry E. Cooper.
The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland 21713.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at the Brownsville Church of the Brethren, 1911 Rohrersville Road, Knoxville, Maryland 21758. Interment will follow in the joining church cemetery. Pastor Alan Smith will officiate.
