Alice was born in Blabon, ND on May 31, 1930 and she moved with her family to Hillsboro, ND in 1944. She graduated from North Dakota State University in 1952 with a degree in Home Economics. She and Warren Marquardt married September 4, 1955. Alice was a teacher in her field until 1963, when she became a superb stay-at-home mom to her children while living in Roseville, MN. She moved with her husband and children to New Carrollton, MD in 1969. In the 1970’s, Alice began to substitute teach in the Prince George’s County, MD school system, and then focused on tutoring children in reading and math. She also spent several years doing in-home teaching to children who were too ill to attend school on a regular basis. Her relationships with these children were priceless.
Alice spent many years volunteering at Hope Lutheran Church in College Park, MD on various committees, enjoyed many years with the University of Maryland Campus Club, and Gourmet Cooking Group. She was an avid Bridge player, and enjoyed bowling and golfing in her younger days. Alice was well-known for her cooking, her beautiful smile, and kind words to everyone she met. She always had a glass half-full mentality; always looked forward and never backward. Alice could always be seen with red lipstick on, her beautiful bright outfits, jewelry and matching purses. She loved to shop and socialize everywhere she went. She made everyone feel special from good friends to casual acquaintances. Her absolute favorite thing in life was people followed by her love of watching sports.
Her loving husband, Warren, passed away in 2006 after 50 happy years of marriage. Alice enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends. She loved vacationing in the Outer Banks with her children, visiting her sister and brother-in-law in Florida, her brother and his family in Virginia, and also spending time with her lifelong high school friend, Janet Reinhardt.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, May 16 at 2:00 at Hope Lutheran Church, 4201 Guilford Drive, College Park, MD 20740. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Lutheran Church.
