Mrs. Alice S. Charity, 91, of Frederick, Maryland passed away peacefully on Friday June 9, 2017 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Alice was born on January 21, 1926 in Bedford, VA and was a resident of Sunrise of Frederick Assisted Living. She was the daughter of the late George Selden Sr. and Alice T. Selden. Mrs. Charity was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, John H. Charity, Sr., her son John H. Charity, Jr.; and a brother Robert Selden.
Alice was educated in the Bedford County Schools and furthered her education by attending Virginia State College where she studied elementary education. She was a life-long educator and retired as a parent liaison coordinator for South Frederick Elementary School.
Alice loved going on road trips to visit family and friends, and loved to visit the Caribbean. She was a wonderful cook and loved to decorate her home, especially for the holidays. Alice was an avid reader and loved to learn. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and collecting sea shells.
Cherishing her memory are two devoted daughters, Sandra C. Lawson of Richmond, VA and Lisa Charity-Jones of Marriottsville, MD; two sons-in-law, Nelson R. Lawson, Sr. and Kevin Jones; four grandchildren, Nelson Lawson, Jr., Brian Lawson, Elliott Jones, and Allison Jones;one brother, Calvin Selden of Bedford , Virginia; one sister, Evelyn Scott of Roanoke, Virginia; sister-in-laws, Esther Selden and Maxine Selden of Bedford, Virginia; devoted cousin Florence Hubert of Wayne, Pennsylvania; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm on Saturday June 17 at Stauffers Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702 with services to follow at 2pm. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick, MD.
