Mrs. Alice Virginia Boykin, 93, of Frederick, Maryland, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at the Kline Hospice House. She was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children Oscar H. Crigger; and late husbands, Stanley Ellis and Jiles Boykin.
She was born August 8, 1918 in Tazewell County in Pocohontas, VA. She was the daughter of the late James Eldridge Yost and Sally Peery Catson. Alice grew up in Bluefield, VA.
Mrs. Boykin volunteered at the Naval ship yards during WWII, in the main and misc. shops, color coding E-boxes and wiring and soldering them for the war effort. She was employed as a waitress at Hot Shoppes in Rockville, MD and in other restaurants. Her last employment was with Giant Food on Rockville Pike, as a bakery manager, and at Cabin John, MD. She retired to Wilson, NC and took care of two little boys, Aaron and T.J. Brock whom she loved. The family kept in touch with her through the years. She moved back to Maryland to be closer to all her family in the 1980’s She enjoyed learning to quilt, sew and can in her younger days. She loved to cook and share meals with her family and friends. Alice was a generous person and was always ready to lend a hand where it was needed.
She will be greatly missed by her surviving family; daughter Barbara R. Crigger of Cumberland, MD, son Michael W. Crigger and wife Gloria of Hancock, MD, daughters Carol C. Wolford and husband Elmer of Romney, WV and Susan L. Corle and husband Jim of Adamstown, MD, 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren, a nephew Vernon Witter and wife Nellie of Waldorf, MD and her friends at Taney Village Apartment. She was preceded in death by two brothers Eugene and Walter Yost and a sister Nell Cox.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Saturday, January 7 from 12 Noon until service time at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Jerry Price will officiate.
She will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
