Alfred Amato

January 15, 1919 — July 21, 2015

Mr. Alfred "Al" Anthony Amato, 96, of Frederick, MD passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the life partner of Vicky Nicholson for over 25 years.

Born January 15, 1919, he was the son of the late Pasquale and Rachela Esposito Amato.

Al proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Force as Staff Sergeant. Serving in the 305th Service Group, 1633 Ordinance Company, attached to 12 Air Force and the 312 Bomber Group. Al has his MA in American Civilization and is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Fordum University. He taught high school and college courses in American History and World Cultures. Al later became a technical writer and wrote "Immigration: The Growing Controversy." He most recently taught at FCC, at the Institute for Learning in Retirement. He was also a member of the American Legion, FSK Post #11, Frederick and the Elks Lodge,

#684, Frederick.

In addition to Vicky, he is survived by his children Alfred Amato and significant other Ann Archbold of Wisconsin and Ardean Amato-Chase and husband Donald Chase of Annapolis; brother Pat Amato of Long Island; Vicky's son, Donald Nicholson and grandsons Daniel and Edmund Nicholson; niece Claire Ruggiero of Long Island and numerous nieces and nephews also of Long Island. He will also be remembered by Raffella Amato and family of Tramonti, Italy.

He is preceded in death by his brother Augie Amato and sister-in-law Millie.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
