Mrs. Alena Irene Smith, 83, of Frederick, passed away, Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Alfred Thomas Smith, Jr. of Parkersburg, WV.
Alena was born August 22, 1928 in Charleston,West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Oscar Henry Sheffey and Winnie Davis Dakin Sheffey, who died at Alena’s birth.
Mrs. Smith received her Masters Degree from West Virginia University, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude, was a teacher for thirty years in the Wood County West Virginia School System, received the honor of being named Wood County Teacher of the Year and was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. She also enjoyed playing bridge, going to the theater, listening to music and reading.
She is survived by two children Thomas SunHawk of Creola, OH and Melissa Lynn McCoy and husband David of Jefferson, MD, grandchildren Derrick Smith, Jessica and Shannon McCoy, and great grandson Aaron Smith. She was preceded in death by her sister Lila Ruth Lambert, her daughter-in-law Marty Sheffey as well as her grandparents Alena and Milton Dakin who reared her.
A Celebration of her life will be held at The Memorial Church of the Good Shepherd, Parkersburg, WV on Saturday, May 5, at 2:00 pm
Interment will be at The Memorial Church of the Good Shepherd, Parkersburg, WV.
