Albert Yang

July 19, 1928 — September 6, 2019

Albert Yuen-Tchou Yang, formerly of Rockville, Maryland, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2019, at his current home in Adamstown, Maryland. He was 91 years old. Albert was born on July 19, 1928 in Shanghai, China and spent his childhood in the Chinese countryside of Ningbo, China.  In 1948, to escape the advancing Communist government, Albert fled Shanghai to Hong Kong, where he lived for nearly 20 years. Albert had a gift with numbers and was a self-made man.  He worked during the day and attended school at night to become a Certified Chartered Accountant. In his late 30’s, Albert met his wife, Pauline. The political instability in Hong Kong led Albert to apply for Canadian citizenship and he immigrated to Toronto in 1967.  After a long-distance courtship, Albert and Pauline were married in Washington, D.C. in 1968.  Shortly thereafter, Albert moved to the Washington area to be with Pauline.

Albert was a well-respected coworker, manager, and accountant. He was meticulous in his bookkeeping and diligently managed the accounting department at the NUS Corporation for over 23 years until his retirement. Albert was also an unwaveringly devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many.  He was full of life: silly, funny, and thoroughly enjoyed the simple things.  He was also deeply true to his word and always appreciated family above all else.

Albert and Pauline celebrated 51 years of marriage this past January and were blessed with four children and seven grandchildren.  Albert is survived by his wife, Pauline; daughter Cassie Terra and her husband Jay of Adamstown, MD; daughter Carrie Yang-Johnson and Tom Johnson of Waterford, VA; son Kenneth Yang of Gaithersburg, MD; and daughter Dr. Kamie Yang and her husband Greg Gilchrist of Ann Arbor, MI; and grandchildren Nathan, Molly, Grace, Jacob, Ella Rae, Kate, and Michael.

A celebration of Albert’s life will be held September 14, 2019 at 2pm at Buckingham’s Choice (3200 Bakers Circle) in Adamstown, MD.  Written condolences to the family may be left at www.StaufferFuneralHome.com.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to: Abilities Network at abilitiesnetwork.org/way-to-give/donate-now/
