Mr. Albert Eugene Rudinger, Jr., 78 of Frederick, passed away Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Elizabeth Green Rudinger. They would have celebrated their 60
th
anniversary this November.
Born September 5, 1931 in Louisa, Virginia, he was the only child of the late Albert and Emily Dunn Rudinger.
Mr. Rudinger graduated from Louisa County High where he played baseball and was on the first football team in the school’s history. He attended the University of Richmond, Richmond, Virginia, and then joined the U. S. Air Force. After his honorable discharge from the military service, he joined State Farm Insurance in Charlottesville, Virginia and transferred to Frederick when they opened their new office in 1965. Mr. Rudinger was also the Deacon and Superintendent of the Sunday school at Aldergate United Methodist Church.
When Mr. Rudinger was not working, he was active in youth sports and at one time was president of the state Babe Ruth Association. He also enjoyed playing golf. He was an active mason in the Orange, VA Lodge and had received his 50 year membership pin. In addition he was a member of the Scottish Rites Free Masonry. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 11 and the local Catoctin Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Hope Linehan and her husband William Craig, and his son, Richard Franklin Rudinger and his wife, Melissa; seven grandchildren, Kelly, Eric, Craig, Mark and Ryan Linehan and Margaret (Maggie) and Alex Rudinger. He is also survived by his aunts Olive Rudinger Caldwell and Natalie Dunn Hoffman and uncle, James S. Dunn. Also his beloved Biscon Frise, Louie.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 10 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 131 Second Street, Frederick, The Rev. Kenneth Dunnington will officiate.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that contributions be made to Calvary United Methodist Church, 131 Second St., Frederick, MD 21701, for its general fund in Al’s memory.
