Albert McPherson

January 9, 1925 — June 26, 2018

Mr. Albert Mehring McPherson died on June 26, 2018, but will be remembered more for how he lived. His beautiful blue eyes were the outward sign of his clarity, his honesty and his integrity. Those that knew him know he could be as tender as he was tough.

Born January 9, 1925 in Washington DC he grew up in Dickerson on the family farm he took over as a teenager after his father‘s death (Terrence A. McPherson) and took take care of his mother (Mary Murray), brother and sister. Albert’s work ethic and devotion to his family began here and continued throughout his life, a life that was filled with great risks and great rewards.

Albert met his wife Hilda Moxley, a young FMH nurse, and together they spent over 70 years together, farming, raising a family, raising cattle, racing horses, investing in and developing real estate, serving their church (Marvin Chapel UMC) and traveling when there was time, especially with their lifelong friends John and Kitty Bradshaw. His favorite places to travel were Alaska, Canada,  his ranch in Montana and later on his land in Iowa.

He trained and raised standard bred race horses and raced at Rosecroft, in Laurel and the Meadowlands in New York and received the award for the fastest Maryland Sired 2 year old pacing Colt by the Maryland Breeder’s Association. He also raised pure bred Red Angus cattle. He actively promoted the breed as a member of the Mason Dixon Red Angus Association and as  past board member of the National Red Angus Association. In addition he was a past member of the New Market Lions Club; MD Farm Bureau; president of board of trustees Marvin Chapel UMC; and the member of Masonic Lodge.

Albert is survived by his wife Hilda, one daughter Brenda J. Cobb, her husband Vandy, Cedartown, Georgia; and one son Terrence W. (Bud) McPherson and wife Tracey, Frederick, MD.  He is also survived by his only grandson Michael Patrick Hines, his wife Carrie, and his three great grandchildren, Patrick, Savannah and McKenzie Hines. Minneapolis, MN. He was predeceased by a sister Elizabeth Geraci and brother Roland McPherson. Albert will be forever remembered by his farmhand and friend Jame E. (Speedy) Bartgis. Albert will also be remembered by his wonderful friend and nurse for the past year Chimene Dossouvi.
