Agnes Rohrer

September 30, 1914 — May 6, 2015

Agnes Louise (Fisher) Rohrer, 100, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at Charlotte's Home in Boonsboro, Maryland.

Born September 30, 1914 on Spielman Road in Sharpsburg, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd  and Lela (Bovey) Fisher; and the step daughter of Gladys Fisher.  Her husband of 66 years, Carroll M. Rohrer, preceded her in death in 2000.

Louise grew up on a farm outside of Keedysville, Maryland, where she attended school through the 8th grade.  She took piano lessons and used this skill throughout her life, playing for silent movies at the Sharpsburg Movie House, then playing piano and organ for her church, Salem United Methodist, and for other local churches on occasion.  She played for at least 28 weddings.  She taught Sunday School, Bible School and she was also a choir member.  Louise also served as the Librarian in Keedysville for a time.  She continued her education, taking typing and bookkeeping night courses at Boonsboro High School.  She used these skills assisting her husband in their garage business, Rohrer's Garage, in Boonsboro for 20 years.  Her thirst for knowledge continued, so she pursued a high school diploma through the G.E.D. program, graduating at the age of 70.

She was a member of the Boonsboro Senior Citizens Club, served as a volunteer at the Boonsboro Fire Department, and she was employed by the Hagerstown Trust Bank for 13 years.

Louise took many trips to Florida and many other states, including Hawaii.  She was a proud, confident woman with an indomitable spirit and love of life.  The family wishes to extend appreciation to the amazing staff at Charlotte's Home I, for their respectful care and attention to her needs.  Also, they thank Hospice for their care more recently.

She is survived by her daughter N. Elaine Reid and husband Lloyd, of Clear Spring, Maryland; her sister Mary Garnand (age 102) of Boonsboro; three grandchildren, Darryl, Craig, and Sherry; and seven great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Louise was preceded in death by a daughter, Joan L. Rohrer, in 1952, whom she had given total care; her brother, Lester B. Fisher in 1985; and her son-in-law, Donald Reid in 2002.

A graveside ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at the Boonsboro Cemetery.  Rev. Elizabeth A. LeMaster will officiate.

Memorial donations can be made to the Salem United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 25, Keedysville, Maryland, 21756; or to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland, 21742.
