Adrian McCardell "Mac" Remsberg passed away on December 29, 2023, in Frederick, Maryland at the age of 90.
Born on July 7, 1933, in Frederick, Mac was the son of J. Homer Remsberg and Abby McCardell Remsberg, both of whom preceded him in death.
Mac is survived by his devoted wife, Peggy Holter Remsberg, who were married nearly 60 years ago. A loving father, Mac leaves behind his two sons, Adrian McCardell "Mike" Remsberg, Jr. (and wife Lisa), and John "Jay" Holter Remsberg, both of Middletown. His legacy extends to the next generation through his grandchildren, John Holter Remsberg, Jr. (and wife Jess), Maggie Holter Remsberg, Olivia McCardell Remsberg, and Ethan McCardell Remsberg, as well as his great-grandsons Landon and Archer. Mac is also survived by his brother, John "Jack" Homer Remsberg of Middletown. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Carol Remsberg Bare and Joyce Remsberg Shank.
Raised on the family farm, Locvale Farms, in Middletown, Mac went on to achieve success in various facets of life. A graduate of the University of Maryland, his athletic talents shone on the soccer field, captaining the Men's Soccer team to an ACC Championship and contributing to two others. His love for Maryland Terrapin sports was unwavering, reflecting his pride in his alma mater. A talented musician, Mac was a singer, pianist, and a member of the University of Maryland Marching Band, which most notably played at the Orange Bowl. Later in life, he served in a variety of roles in the University of Maryland Alumni Association.
Mac’s professional journey took him to distinguished positions in the United States Navy, where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander, with duty stations across the globe, including Morocco, London, Honolulu, and Fort Ritchie (Site R). His military career was as an operational intelligence officer. Mac served on the staffs of Commander-in-Chief, Europe, Commander-in-Chief, Pacific, and with the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Alternate National Military Command Center.
Following his retirement from military service, Mac was elected to public office as a County Commissioner of Frederick County, Maryland. In the private sector, Mac became a skilled business executive, contributing his talents to the betterment of the community. He continued his deep interest in government affairs serving numerous roles including Chairman of the Legislative Committee for the Frederick Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Baltimore Region Environmental Advisory Board for the Baltimore Region Council of Governments, and Chairman of the Frederick County Property Tax Appeals Board. His sense of justice and fairness led him to serve as a Judge of the Frederick County Orphans Court, where his wisdom and compassion touched many lives. Well into his 80s, Mac fully retired to focus on family, pets, and his farmstead.
A funeral service celebrating Mac’s life will be held at 11am on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Christ Reformed United Church of Christ, 12 South Church Street, Middletown, MD 21769. In lieu of flowers, the family requests considering a donation to the Christ Reformed UCC Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 333, Middletown, MD 21769 or charity of your choice in Mac’s memory.
