Mr. William C. Hardy, Sr., 98 of Brunswick, MD also known as “Bill” and "Hardy" to many, passed away Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Though his family and friends will miss him, he lived a full and passionate life culminating in 25 years of civil service as a Cancer Laboratory Research Technician for the National Institute of Health. In the span of his cancer research career, he worked with many research physicians and was involved in a 1981 abstract regarding guinea pig thyroid tissue (Fradkin, Hardy, Wolff ).
In addition to his work at NIH, William Hardy was proud of his life-time membership with Ebenezer AME Church and his Masonic membership of over 50 years with the Fredericktonian Masonic Lodge #12. He was also proud of his ability in his mid 80s to utilize technology to communicate with family and friends and especially his nephew Kevin, deployed multiple times to serve in the Iraqi war conflict.
Hardy over the last several years was recognized during several events with other citizens of Frederick County, all 90 and older, for their life experiences and accomplishments. Hardy was a former part owner of Club 72 and rental properties in the downtown Frederick area, Hardy loved people, as well as fishing, camping, Judge Judy and the Redskins and he loved to have a good time. He will be remembered for his care of others and his unfailing good humor.
Born on January 27, 1916 in Brunswick, MD, William Hardy was the son of the late George A. and Julia Bell Hardy.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, June E. Hardy of 50 years,daughter Gwen (Al) who he lovingly called "Gwennie". Hardy cited his love of family and his special friends to the end and especially his wife and daughter as the center of his being.
Left to cherish his memory are five sisters, Frances Hardy, Esther Brown, Edna Bowie, Eleanor Hosby (Robert), and Lillie Morris (Leo), one brother, Robert Hardy (Wilma ), daughter-n- law, Karen Hardy, nine grandchildren, Dawn, Eulynda, Cecil, Teri, Shenequle,
Lisa (Miquel), Mishay (Norman), Kristine (Andy), and Melissa (John).
Not to be forgotten are his many loving nieces and nephews, a great host of other relatives and friends such as his former Ritz Apartment neighbors and Edna Hill of Rockville, MD, Vincent and Edna Hill of Thomasville, GA and Sherman and Rachel Mason of Lewistown, MD.
He was preceded in death by his wife Alma Morgan Hardy, son, William C. Hardy, Jr., sisters Katherine Lockley, Bessie Bussey and brother George C. Hardy and his step-mother, Hester E. Hardy.
The family will receive friends at Ebenezer AME Church, 720 N. Maple Avenue, Brunswick, MD on Monday, March 31, 2014; viewing at 10:00am; Masonic Services will begin at
10:45a.m. and Funeral Services at 11:00a.m.
Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
