Susan Pate

Susan Marie Pate, 64, of Boonsboro, Maryland passed away peacefully on March 25, 2019 at her home. She was the wife of Raphael Anthony Vendetti.
Born on February 21, 1955 in Cheverly, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Calvin Theodore and Edith Ellen (Dugan) Apel. Susan was raised in Seabrook, Maryland and graduated from DuVal High School. In 1972, she married Michael Charles Howdyshell and raised her 4 children, Mary, Kelly, Michael and Kurtis in Beltsville, MD. She worked as a bookkeeper for Duron Paint until 1984 when she decided to run a daycare and stay at home with her sons. She met her future husband in 2000, marrying Ray Vendetti in 2007 and the couple moved to Flintstone, MD where they owned Edie’s Country Kitchen. They relocated to Boonsboro, MD and she began working for Dominion Floors and part time at AC&T. She enjoyed remodeling houses, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her four children, Mary Catucci and husband Nick, and their children Kailey, Shayna and Petey; Kelly Aiken and husband Kenny and their children Madelyn and Alivia; Michael Howdyshell and wife Jisoo and their son, Michael Charlie; and Kurtis Howdyshell and wife Devin and their children Dakota and KJ. She is also survived by her brother, James Apel.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Yvonne “Bonnie” Luce.
The family will receive friends from 1-3pm on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland 21713. A Celebration of Susan’s life will begin at 3pm at the funeral home. A time of fellowship and memories will follow at the funeral home following the service.
