Norman Eugene “Bob” Waltz, 91, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on June 28, 2016.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Betty Mae Waltz, one son, Robert Fogle Waltz and his wife Sherry of Walkersville, two grandchildren, Jeffrey Waltz and his wife Jill of Walkersville and Jenna Menkes and her husband, Alan of New York, NY. He was Pap-pap to his six great grandchildren Tyler, Kaylin and Hanna Waltz, Samantha, Lyla and Austin Menkes.
He is also survived by one sister, Pauline Murphy and many special nieces and nephews.
After returning from his tour of duty in the U.S. Army during World War II, learning the plumbing trade through the GI Bill, working as an apprentice for A. E. Fisher, he and Betty started a plumbing, heating and air conditioning business which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. In the ‘70’s he teamed up with two of his colleagues and formed Frederick County Developers, Valley Land Investors and Bolivar Heights Land Development Partnership resulting in the developments of Glade Towne and Glade Manor in Walkersville, Bolivar Heights in Middletown including numerous real estate investments with his son and grandson in Frederick County and Pennsylvania.
Bob was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church for 65 years serving the church in many capacities including ushering, member and president of the Leaders Bible Class, Chairman of the Church Property Committee and as a member of the board of trustees of the Baltimore Washington Conference.
Born on March 24, 1925 in Libertytown, MD, He remained in Frederick County his entire life. His contributions to his treasured home are many. Bob was called to be an original trustee of the Frederick County Community Foundation. He also served for a number of years on the board of Goodwill. More recently, Bob along with Betty were named Good Samaritans of the Year for 2016 by Frederick Memorial Hospital for their service to the community and the hospital.
Bob has traveled all over the world with Betty and friends visiting four continents and numerous locations in the USA. He loved to dance as a member of the Woodsboro Dance Club. He was also an avid hunter and golfer. One of his favorite past times was playing cards especially when he won. He loved people and enjoyed the discussions and comradery he had with his buddies in the Thurmont Lunch Group and the Frederick Coffee Club.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick on Friday, July, 1st from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 2nd at 11:00AM at Calvary United Methodist Church, 131 West 2nd Street, Frederick with Rev. Harry C. Cole officiating.
A private interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
