Mary Heslin

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Heslin, 90, of Frederick, died Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Homewood at Crumland Farms. She was the wife of the late Maj. William G. Heslin (US Army, ret.), who predeceased her in 1986.

Born September 12, 1922 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Butts Hickey.  In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, and one granddaughter, Karyn Amanda Heslin.

Mrs. Heslin met her future husband in St. Petersburg, Florida and later they were married at Camp Rucker, Alabama.  During her husband’s career in the U.S. Army, Mrs. Heslin lived in Panama, Puerto Rico, Italy, and throughout the United States as a devoted military spouse and loving mother.  Eventually, they settled in Frederick in 1961 as Mr. Heslin finished his career at Ft. Detrick.  Mrs. Heslin was a longtime member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Frederick.

She is survived by five sons, Lawrence Heslin and wife, Ann, of New Market; Richard Heslin and wife, Kathi, of Wilmington, NC; James Heslin of Frederick; Kevin Heslin and wife, Joanne, also of Frederick; and Thomas Heslin and wife, Lori, of  New Midway; a daughter, Kathleen T. Heslin and long-time companion, Mark Waddel, of Frederick; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. A Rosary service will begin at 8 p.m. with Deacon Mike Currens presiding.  A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 14 at St. John's Catholic Church, 118 E. Second Street, Frederick.  Officiating will be Father Miguel Mateo.

Interment will follow at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Homewood at Crumland Farms, 7407 Willow Road, Frederick, MD 21702; or to St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 118 E. Second Street, Frederick, MD 21701.
