Madeline Holder

April 13, 1927 — June 15, 2017

Madeline Ardell ( Hines) Holder, 90 years of age. Born April 13, 1927 and died June 15, 2017 at her home near Knoxville, MD under the wonderful care of Hospice of Washington Co.

She was born in Gapland MD, daughter of the late Samuel H. and Nina M.Gaylor Hines. She was the wife of 59 years, to the Late Richard I. Holder.

She is preceded in death by brothers, Gorman L. Hines, Reynolds G. Hines, and Robert L. Hines; sisters, B. Marie Holder, Virginia M. Holler Hines and Ruby Hines; granddaughter, Kelly M. Holder.

She was a graduate of Boonsboro High School, Class of 1946.

She was employed at the Hanover Shoe, Middletown, MD for 23 years. Retired from the Postal Dept. as Postmaster of the Gapland Post office of 20 years. She had been a member of the Moose 660, Eagles 1136, and American Legion 96, Brunswick, MD.

In younger years, she and the family would enjoy vacations in Ocean City Md. Loving the beach, crabbing, lazing on the pontoon boat, whether on the Bay or on the Potomac River with passed friends Doris and Harry Crowl and husband Dick. Later in life she enjoyed trips to Florida and visiting with friends.

She was an active member of the Brownsville Church of the Brethren. A member of the Golden Rule Fellowship and Kitchen committee where she was known as "Madeline the kitchen Queen". Everyone enjoyed her cooking.

She is survived by son, Ricky L. Holder, wife Mary Ann; daughter, Barbara (Bobbi) Hahn, husband David; grandchildren, Todd L. Holder, wife Darlene, sarah Holder, Scott D. Hahn, wife Lauren, Katie Hahn, Aaron Hahn, wife Meagan. She is also survived by nine great grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, June 19, 2017 from 5-7pm at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, Boonsboro. A funeral service will be held at 1pm, Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Brownsville Church of the Brethren. Burial will take place at the Brownsville Heights Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to Brownsville Church of the Brethren Kitchen Committee.

Thank you to Dr. Hind Hamdan, Ami Rowe CRNP and the staff at Antietam Oncology. Dr. Abner@Wound Center, Meritus Hospital, Ravenwood Nursing Home and Dr. Zafar Malik for the care given during her last painful months of life.
