Kristina "Kris" Gorman-Wood, age 48, of Frederick, Maryland, passed peacefully on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
Kristina was the daughter of David Gorman and Karen (Hughes) Gorman; and the step-daughter of Paula (Fedele) Gorman. She was sister to Matt Gorman of Greenville, SC, Kerry Rodriguez of Frederick, MD, Katie Dockins of Berlin, MD, and Karleigh Gorman of Simpsonville, SC. She was married to Steven Wood; and mother to Jordan Wood. She was sister-in-law to James Wood, Nancy and Kevin Hume, Judith and David Dutton, Edward Rodriguez, and Brad Dockins. She was beloved aunt to Audrey Gorman, Devin Gorman, Morgan Rodriguez, Taylor Gorman, Josie Rodriguez, Holden Dockins, Emily Hume, Erin Hume, Brendan Hume, Christopher Dutton, Michael Dutton, LeAnne Byers Hill, and Waylon Byers.
Kristina lived a life of service. She worked at Community Support Services over 30 years, her entire adult life, serving autistic and developmentally disabled individuals. During that time, she made the lives of hundreds of clients and their families so much better. She loved her conversations with her clients, and helping these people live the best life they could. Kris and her husband, Steven, also made amazing friends who were her coworkers. She will be missed greatly at CSS.
Kris served every community where she lived. She volunteered for the PTAs, field trips, Little League, Ballenger Creek Rec Basketball, Frederick Ravens Nest #3, and in so many other ways.
Kris was the friend people called when they needed an ear. She was who they called when they needed a laugh. Or a cry. Or needed a helping hand. She was loved by so many friends over the years, and will be missed.
While everything listed above is amazing, her greatest accomplishment was that as a mom. She instilled in her son, Jordan, a desire to learn as a toddler, leading him to become a teacher. She modeled behaviors that taught him to interact with everyone as she did: with respect, acceptance, and a smile.
Kristina's happy place was the beach. She will be cremated, with a scattering of cremains in the ocean.
In some ways, Kris was too fragile for this world. It broke her heart to see some of the hatred and division we've seen in the last few years. If you want to honor her memory, please be kind to each other whenever possible.
Kristina loved the Grateful Dead early in life, and the Foo Fighters in later years. She would put music on when she needed some inspiration, to calm her when she was anxious, and maybe just to dance a little. The next time you hear a song by either band, listen and think of your best memory with her.
In lieu of flowers, and if you would like to do something to honor Kristina's life, donations can be made in her name to Community Support Services here: https://connect.clickandpledge.com/w/Form/e26a443c-d7c1-4d04-9ba4-8869387aee82
CSS provides housing, employment, and recreation to individuals with developmental disabilities and autism. It was her life's work, and this is the greatest way we can think of to honor her service to these special individuals.
