Mrs. JoAnn (Jo) R. Smith, 78 of Middletown, MD., died Thursday, January 7, 2010 at the Glade Valley Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Gerald P. Smith, Sr.

Born May 28, 1931 in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Albert A. And Leila M. Smith Remsburg.

Mrs. Smith was an active member of the Frederick Presbyterian Church. She retired from the Herald Mail in Hagerstown, after 25+ years of service, as the newspaper librarian. Jo loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, taking care of the family dogs and watching old Classic movies.

She is survived by three children Michael T. Smith and wife Roberta of Frederick, JoEllen Hansroth and husband David of Gaithersburg and Gerald P. Smith, Jr and wife Vanessa of Middletown, grandchildren Debra DeLuna and significant other Michael Smith of Middletown, Robert Hall of Frederick, Alison Ferner and husband Joseph of Ashburn, VA, Emily Thumma and husband Joshua of Braddock Heights, Lauren Kinnari and husband Mark of Portland, OR and Gerald P. Smith, III of Middletown, great grandchildren Jacob, Eli, Noah, Ian and Hayden, a sister Patricia Demmitt of Hagerstown and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister Phyllis C. Remsburg.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opopssumtown Pike, Frederick on Tuesday, January 12, from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m.

Services: Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, January 13, at 11:00 a.m. From the Frederick Presbyterian Church, 115 W. Second Street, Frederick with Rev. Eric T. Myers officiating.

Interment Boonsboro Cemetery, Boonsboro

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Frederick Presbyterian Church Music Fund at the above address.
