Mrs. Irene Elizabeth Toms Taylor, 83, of Thurmont, Maryland, passed away suddenly Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Clarence Lee Taylor, Jr. her husband of 60 years.
Born March 7, 1930, in Wolfsville, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Harry C. and E. Rae Johnson Toms.
Mrs. Taylor lived the majority of her life in the Thurmont area and was a 1948 graduate of Thurmont High. She was an active and lifelong member of Weller United Methodist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher for several years. In addition to her church activities, she was an avid gardener of both flowers and vegetables. Later in life, she had a strong interest in health and fitness and could often be found at the Rec center at Mt. St. Mary’s walking and lifting weights.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by Gregory H. Taylor of Baltimore, Clarence Taylor, III of MN, granddaughter Stacey Taylor of Shepherdstown, WV and adopted granny to Holly, Maigan and Nikole Torre of Thurmont. She was preceded in death by a son Dennis K. Taylor.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, December 7, at Weller United Methodist Church, 101 N. Altamont Avenue, Thurmont with Pastor Bob Kells officiating. Viewing will be from 10:00 am until service time.
Interment Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
