Florence (Sissy) Wireman Ford Stitely

Mrs. Florence (Sissy) Virginia Wireman Ford Stitely, 93, of Thurmont, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 15, 2017.

Florence was the wife of Dale M. Ford, Sr., who passed away on June 13, 1944 in France during World War II. On February 2, 1952, she married Charles (Pete) H. Stitely, Jr., in the living room of their home in Thurmont by the late Rev. Ivan G. Naugle.

Born May 21, 1923 at the home of her parents on Frederick Road in Thurmont, she was the daughter of the late Earlie L. Wireman and Beulah F. Nunemaker Wireman.

Florence graduated from Thurmont High School in 1940. She worked at the Emmitsburg Manufacturing Company as a seamstress for 11 years. Florence then went to work for Moore Business Forms as a proofreader, where she retired in 1985. She was a waitress at Cozy Restaurant and at the Thurmont American Legion for many years.

Florence was a lifelong member of Weller United Methodist Church, active in the choir, alters guild and the Ladies Sunday School class. She was a life member and past president of Post 168 Thurmont American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and a life member of Post 7 Thurmont Ladies Amvets. She loved serving banquets and doing all she could for the Legion.

Sissy, as known by all her friends, loved to work and keep busy. She loved God, life, her friends and most of all her family.

She is survived by a son, Dale M. Ford, Jr., and wife, Shirley, of Emmitsburg; daughter, Charlene F. Stitely and fiancé, Charles R. Hubbard, of Thurmont; two grandsons, Eric W. Ford and fiancée, JoAnna; and Curtis L. Ford and wife, Kristie; two great-grandsons, Devon C. Ford, and Luke A. Ford; one sister, Frances P. Motter and husband, Robert, of Thurmont; and many nieces and nephews, including special niece Bernadette Wudarski.

Florence also will be remembered by many friends, including Betty and the late RJ Shorb.

She was predeceased by a brother, Paul E. Wireman.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Weller United Methodist Church, 101 N. Altamont Ave., Thurmont, with the family receiving friends at church from 10 a.m. until service time. Officiating will be Pastor Bob Kells.

Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Cemetery. Serving as pall bearers will be her son, Dale M. Ford., Jr.; close friend, Charles R. Hubbard; grandsons, Eric and Curtis Ford; great-grandson Luke Ford; and nephew, Ray Wudarski.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Weller United Methodist Church, 101 N. Altamont Ave., Thurmont, MD 21788.
