Florence Garst

April 30, 1930 — August 23, 2016

Mrs. Florence R. "Flo, Becky" Garst, 86, of Keymar died Tuesday, August 23, 2016. She was the wife of C. Richard Garst. They were married for 67 years.

Born April 30, 1930 in Walkersville, she was the daughter of the late George E. and Margaret (Hedges) Roderuck.

She worked as a sales associate at JoAnn Fabrics for 30 years, in addition to being a farmer's wife and raising her family.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Dana Garst and wife, Vanessa; Michael Garst and wife, Susie; and George "Dick" Garst and wife, Barbara, all of Keymar; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Catherine Shriver of Oklahoma, and Doris J. Flanigan of Rocky Ridge; and many nieces and nephews.

Florence was predeceased by two sons, David Garst and Randy Garst; a brother, Harold Roderuck; and two sisters, Charlotte Roderuck and Margaret Roderuck.

The family extends a special thank you to all of Flo's caregivers, especially Bethany and Chris Churco, whom she resided with since March.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, August 26, 2016 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Ave., Walkersville.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Project Linus, P.O. Box 5621, Bloomington, IL 61707-5621, a charitable organization that Flo supported for many years by sewing hundreds of comfort blankets for children in need; or to Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702.
