Eric Wolfe

Eric Roderick Wolfe, 74, of Middletown, passed away at Frederick Memorial Hospital on 27 October 2017. He was the loving husband of Patricia, whom he married on 23 June 1967.

Born in Detroit, Michigan on 13 May, 1943, he was the son of Frederick A. Wolfe and Grace Rosolowski Wolfe, both deceased.

Rick, his nickname, entered the U.S. Army in January 1965. He was trained to be a bio-medical equipment repair technician at Fitzsimons General Hospital in Denver, Colorado, and began his tour of duty at the 67th Medical Depot, Einseidlerhof, Germany. He returned to the US for additional training and continued duty as an Instructor at the US Army Medical Equipment & Optical School (USAMEOS) at Fitzsimons. He earned his degree in biomedical engineering technology at Colorado Technical University, Colorado Springs, CO. Following his Army service, he took a position at the U.S. Army Medical Material Agency, National Maintenance Point (USAMMA, NMP), at Fort Detrick, MD. During his tenure, he participated in the development of maintenance policies and physical support during the deployment of computed tomography CT equipment and associated image transmission systems. The deployable CT brought superior X-ray imaging capability to Army hospitals in the tactical and combat environment. He was most proud of that accomplishment. As an Army civilian, he went with the equipment to military locations throughout the United States, Germany, Haiti, Korea, Somalia, Bosnia, Kuwait, and Iraq. He retired from the NMP position in January 2007 and continued work in similar positions until April 2015 when he permanently retired. He liked to joke that he flew around the world a number of times in military transport, and always he was sideways or facing backwards so he could see where he came from. He truly loved traveling, being with the troops, good food, and spending his free time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; sons, Christopher and Richard Wolfe; brother, Fred (Christina) Wolfe, of Royal Oak, Michigan; sister, Grace Weiss, deceased; sister-in-law, Connie (Dan) Idzikowski of Walled Lake, Michigan; a brother-in-law, Robert Macelt (deceased); and many nieces and nephews. He will be remembered by special friends, Lamar and Marie Reese and Dave and Emi Hirt; and many friends throughout the civilian and military community.

A memorial and celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.

An inurnment, with military honors, will held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
