Mr. Donald L. "Don" Giffin, 83, of Knoxville died Monday, November 3, 2014 at Citizens Care and Rehab Center. He was the loving husband of Gladys L. Giffin, whom he married September 11, 1949.
Born March 17, 1931 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Elmer and Thelma Giffin.
Don enjoyed gardening, farming and mowing grass. He was a member of South Mountain Gun Club. He retired after 55 years of service with the transportation department of the Montgomery County Board of Education.
In addition to his wife, Don is survived by his daughter, Patricia M. Keller and husband, Mark, of Sharpsburg; two sons, Donald Giffin, Jr., and wife, Phyllis, of Baltimore, and Thomas Giffin and wife, Cheryl, of Keedysville; four grandchildren, Stephanie Patterson, Ashley Keller, Thomas Giffin, Jr., and Angie Giffin; four great-grandchildren, Peyton Patterson, Issac Patterson, Joie Kaufman, and Mackenzie Giffin; a sister, Betty Jane Sagel of Hagerstown; two nephews, Gary Giffin and Glen Giffin; and a niece, Sharon Davis.
Don will be remembered by his special friends, Grayson and Sylvia Ramsburg, Dave and Joanne Bartgis, and his neighbor, Adrienne Mack.
He was predeceased by two sons, George and John Giffin; a grandson, Jason Giffin, and a brother, Richard Giffin.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Haque and the staff at Citizens Care and Rehab for the loving care given to Don, and especially to his nurses, Phyllis Manka and Virgil Tasker.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 6 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 7. Officiating will be Pastor Eddie Hartman.
Interment will be private.
