David DeWitt

January 4, 1949 — April 22, 2018

David A. DeWitt, 69 of Frederick passed away suddenly on  Sunday, April 22, 2018 at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, University of Maryland. He was the beloved husband of Jacquelyn (Jackie) Houck DeWitt to whom he was married 45 years.

Born January 4, 1949, in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Anson G. DeWitt and Inez Reyenga DeWitt.  David  retired from the federal government, where he worked as a project officer/contract specialist at the National Institutes of Health. He had previously been employed at the former Naval Ordnance Laboratory.  He was a 1967 graduate of Damascus High School and attended Frederick Community College. He was a member of the 113th CAMS Andrew AFB District of Columbia Air National Guard.

Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, Ryan A. DeWitt of Frederick,  Matthew H. DeWitt and wife, Erin, and children Grace, Lila, and Mason of Mechanicsburg, PA.  He is survived by his sister, Cynthia L. Seibel of Delta, PA.

David was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family and friends. He took great pride in his woodturning projects. He enjoyed the friendships he made participating in local clubs, and was an avid Redskin fan.  Most of all, he was known for his sense of humor and quick wit.

He was a member of American Legion FSK Post 11, Frederick Elks Lodge #684, the Mid-Maryland Woodturners Club, and a member of Brook Hill United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, April 28 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702. Funeral services will begin at 2 pm Sunday, April 29, at Brook Hill United Methodist Church, 8946 Indian Springs Rd, Frederick, Md.21702.The Reverend Dr. Wade Martin will officiate, Interment will be in Glade Cemetery, Walkersville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Brook Hill United Methodist Church in his memory. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.staufferfuneralhome.com
