Mrs. Betty Jane Crum, 89, of Walkersville, MD., passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Citizens Nursing and Rehab Center. She was the wife of the late James W. Crum, Sr.
Born March 17, 1925 in Ladiesburg, Maryland, she was the daughter of
the late John Henry and Lovie May VanFossen Hape.
Mrs. Crum was a lifetime member of the Walkersville United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for 60+ years. She was president of the Woman’s Society at the church and was custodian for 36+ years. Betty Jane was a member of the Wakersville Rescue Co. #24, and a member of the Walkersville Fire Co. where she helped with many various functions throughtout the years. In earlier years, she worked at Frederick Tailoring, Frederick County Public Schools and at other numerous food service organizations. Mrs. Crum was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Crum is survived by her children James W. Crum, Jr. and wife Susie, Sharon M. Smith and husband Robert L. Sr. and Nancy J. Walsh and husband Jay all of Walkersville; grandchildren Molly Hayes and husband Chris, Robert L. Smith, Jr., Nicole Cackowski and husband Michael, Heather Walsh , Jordan Walsh, great grandchildren David Knox, Audrey Knox, Victoria Cackowski and Liam Hayes. She was preceded in death by two sisters Alice Clem and Mary Young.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Avenue, Walkersville on Friday, December 5, from 2-4 and 7-9:00 pm Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 6, at 11:30 am at the Walkersville United Methodist Church, 22 Main St., Walkersville with Rev. Richard Baker officiating.
